Bookstore Cataloging Tool

Expo app that catalogs books by ISBN scan with AI-written blurbs — 30 min to 2 min per book.

Problem

Volunteers at a secondhand bookstore cataloged inventory by hand — around 30 minutes per book — and couldn't sell titles they didn't recognize.

What I built

  • Built an Expo mobile app that scans ISBNs, looks them up against the Open Library API, and writes blurbs via Claude Haiku.
  • Added barcode scanning and SQL storage so volunteers can sell unfamiliar titles from day one.

Impact

  • Cut cataloging from ~30 minutes to ~2 minutes per book.
  • Applied across a ~1,000-book volunteer inventory.
